Millican Summer Series

The Millican Summer Series is a six-race 5K series held at Millican Reserve near College Station, Texas. Each race takes place on a Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CDT, with a kids run starting at 6:45 p.m. This schedule accommodates families and adults seeking consistent summer racing. The entry fee is $10, which includes chip timing and a finisher medal. Participants registering for all six races receive a $10 discount. The race setup is straightforward: packet pickup is on race day from 5:50 to 6:50 p.m. Runners are issued a bib with a chip, and the start line is located approximately 0.4 miles from the parking area, with clear signage. The series emphasizes consistency alongside speed, calculating each runner's four best finishes for an awards party. Prizes are awarded for overall points, age groups, most consistent, and most improved. Weekly times determine points, and age groups are established based on age at the first race, with divisions incrementing by 10 years. First Light Racing organizes these events to benefit the Lone Star Running Project, focusing on providing solid trail races at an accessible price.

Firecracker 50

The Firecracker 50 is a 50-mile mountain bike race held annually in Breckenridge, Colorado, on Independence Day. As the original 50-mile MTB race, it precedes Breckenridge's 4th of July parade and holiday festivities, with participants then setting off on local single-track. The rider limit is 750, creating a significant mountain bike event atmosphere without the scale of an unlimited mass start. The course follows a revised route on area trails, featuring aid stations stocked four times per lap. Riders receive practical support at Carter Park, which offers complimentary bike and bag check, a post-race meal, and bike wash as part of the entry fee. The entry package also includes MTB socks and an event shirt, details that align with the race's traditional holiday feel.

About cycling & running in College Station

College Station-Bryan Training Notes

Running: Locals run College Station-Bryan like a steady base-mile town, with Lake Walk, Sandstone Park, and the old USAFit BCS routes doing a lot of the work. Lake Walk Run Club meets every Friday at 6:30 am at the Lake Walk Pavilion, then the group rolls into coffee at POV Coffee House. They run a 28 km route with 14 m of gain when easy Z2 is the plan. The longer route covers 5 miles and gains 66 m when you want more time on feet. Millican Summer Series, Firecracker 5K, Bryan/College Station Marathon, and the 2026 Oktoberfest Half Marathon/10K presented by CC Creations anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Brazos Valley riding starts with farm-to-market roads, gravel options, and enough route names to keep a group chat busy. The route runs 4 miles of gravel. The route runs 8 miles and gains 1,157 ft, and locals use it to explore the rolling hills of Independence and William Penn. The route runs 7 miles with 810 ft of gain. Brazos Valley Cyclists handles road energy, BVMBA keeps singletrack alive at Lake Bryan and Millican Reserve, and Brazos Valley Bike Polo meets at Anderson Park on Tuesdays at 7pm.

Season: Summer owns the local rhythm because Millican Reserve hosts Thursday night 5k racing through the Millican Summer Series. Kids run at 6:45pm, the main event follows, and each $10 race includes chip timing and a finisher medal. Runners treat the series like weekly intervals with a bib, while cyclists still chase morning starts before longer gravel or road miles stack up. Winter changes the clock more than the attitude. The Saturday Banker Ride starts at 7:30am in the winter, and locals keep the pace honest with steadier Z2, shorter loops, and the same coffee-after logic that works all year.
