Corvallis Fall Festival Run

The Corvallis Fall Festival Run starts and finishes near McNary Field on the Oregon State University campus, between 11th and 14th streets. It is a community race featuring an old-school 5K and 10K that begin in the morning, followed by a free 1K Kids' Fun Run later. The event is designed for local runners, families, younger participants, and anyone seeking a low-pressure race connected to the Fall Festival. The 5K and 10K utilize city pedestrian paths, offering a simple, local feel rather than a closed-road event. Heart of the Valley Runners presents the race, aligning with the club’s mission to support running at all levels in Corvallis. This run marks its 47th year, giving it a significant history among small-town festival races. Proceeds support the community, HOTV members receive a registration discount, and the free kids' race highlights the event’s family focus.

Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour

The Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour is a one-day ride on the backroads of Linn County, in Oregon's central Willamette Valley. Participants select from 23, 44, 68, 85, or 100 miles, accommodating newer cyclists, steady recreational riders, and those aiming for a full century. The Mid-Valley Bicycle Club organizes this event, which has been a fixture on the local cycling calendar since the late 1970s. The routes traverse open farm fields and gentle hills, with minimal traffic-light interruptions compared to urban rides. Depending on the distance chosen, cyclists cross up to five historic covered bridges, lending the tour its name and distinct local character. Rest stops, food, and SAG support are provided throughout the day, with a traditional root beer float served at the finish line. A portion of each entry fee supports Bicycle Education & Safety programs, contributing to local cycling initiatives.

Marys Peak Trail Run

The Marys Peak Trail Run takes participants up the highest summit in Oregon’s Coast Range. Starting near Blodgett, the course climbs from approximately 640 feet to a high point of around 4,100 feet. This trail and ultra event occurs on the second Saturday in June, offering 25K, 50K, and longer ultra distances. Established in 2014, the race limits entries to 300 participants and does not offer prize money, emphasizing a mountain challenge over financial reward. The route primarily follows unpaved trails through Starker Forest and the Siuslaw National Forest, featuring roots, steep sections, dense woods, ferns, wildflowers, and large Douglas firs. Both 50K and 25K runners begin at Blodgett School before taking a bus approximately 15 miles to the base of Marys Peak. The longest race starts directly from Blodgett and includes two ascents of the peak. Camping associated with the event generates funds for Blodgett School. The mountain also holds Kalapuya significance; Marys Peak was known as Chateemanwi, meaning “place of spiritual power,” and the area served as a site for spirit quests.

About cycling & running in Corvallis

Corvallis Training Notes

Running: Locals run the Willamette Riverfront, Oregon State University campus, Avery Park, and Bald Hill when they want dirt underfoot. Avery Park connects to the Willamette River on a route that runs about 6 miles. Bald Hill gives locals 3 to 6 miles of trails and a terrific vantage point over all of Corvallis. Heart of the Valley Runners keeps the scene steady with group runs and track workouts almost every day. Corvallis Fall Festival Run, Resolution Run, Run for the Hills, Condor 25K, and Marys Peak Trail Run sit on the anchor race list.

Cycling: Locals ride everywhere here, and about 11% of Corvallis residents commute by bike. Mid-Valley Bicycle Club has been centered in Corvallis since 1974, and MVBC runs weekly rides, multi-day tours, and the Covered Bridge Bicycle Tour. Corvallis Composite MTB gives the dirt side a home. Decker Ridge is the local road test, and the Decker route ascends the locally famous Decker Ridge as a rite of passage for serious road riders. The Oak Creek-McCulloch-Dimple Hill-Vineyard Mountain Loop gains 960 m over 41.3 km. C2C Bike Route gains 1,384 m over 90 km.

Season: Spring through early summer gives Corvallis its best training window, especially May and June. Summer stays warm, dry, and sunny, so locals stack base miles early and keep intervals tight before the heat builds. July and August put ripe huckleberries and salmonberries along the Corvallis-to-Coast Trail. Winter turns mild and wet, with persistent overcast skies and rare snow that usually lasts less than a day. The northwest hills often see more snow, and midwinter fog can sit all day after long rain. Runners move toward pavement, and riders watch visibility before Z2 rides or gravel days.
