The Hub City Half Marathon begins and ends at Meritus Stadium in Hagerstown, Maryland, home of the Flying Boxcars baseball team. Registration for this relatively new half marathon opens in mid-August. Packet pickup and a pre-race safety briefing occur before runners begin. The race package incorporates the stadium theme. Runners receive a shirt, custom bib, finisher medal, sticker, finish-line photos, live results, and one post-race beer or beverage. The event also features an untimed Kids Fun Run for children 12 and under, which takes place for approximately a quarter mile on the baseball field’s warning track. Spectators can track runners via RaceJoy live map tracking. Participants will get GPS progress alerts, text result notifications, and audio cheers during the race.

Running: Locals run the Riverwalk, Dequindre Cut, Joe Louis Greenway, and Belle Isle when they want steady base miles without overthinking the route. Belle Isle has a 4-mile loop with views of the Detroit skyline and the Windsor shore. The park also gives athletes a 200-step staircase when intervals need bite. WeRun313 handles Two Mile Tuesdays, 5K/10K Thursdays, and Sunday Long Runs. RUNdetroit leaves Eastern Market on Saturdays at 8am with 3, 6, and 10 mile options. Detroit Free Press Marathon is the anchor event, with Detroit Riverfront Run 2026 and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the mix.
Cycling: Locals ride the Detroit RiverWalk, Belle Isle Park, Dequindre Cut Greenway, Rouge Park, and Grosse Pointe for everyday Z2 and faster city spins. The Riverfront is your friend when you are near the river district, and spring and fall nights can feel easier for moving quick. The Morning Cranks, Clinton River Riders, Downriver Cycling club, Wolverine, Cadieux Bicycling Club, Base Media, and Flying Rhino cover the club side. The typical Detroit loop gives you 1 km with 125 m elevation. The real climbing sits in routes like Great Rides Detroit - Stoney Creek Lake, which carries 270 m elevation.
Season: Spring and Fall are the best months because the paths feel less crowded and the rides open up. Summer brings Beacon Park free events for all ages, and locals still stack Riverwalk miles, Belle Isle laps, and track work at WSU Track from May to October with RUNdetroit. Winter changes the rhythm, but it does not shut the city down. RUNdetroit keeps Saturday group runs going year-round from Eastern Market, and Rouge Park keeps Comet Loop useful for trail running, winter fat bike, snowshoe, and quiet singletrack when the streets feel less like the move.
