Bass Lake Powerhouse Double Century

The Bass Lake Powerhouse Double Century starts and finishes in Clovis, near Fresno, sending riders into the western Sierra Nevada for just over 201 miles. Organized by the Fresno Cycling Club, this autumn double century features approximately 10,600 to 11,100 feet of climbing, depending on the route measurement. As part of the Triple Crown Stage Race, it attracts riders accustomed to a very long day, early check-in, and a strict finish cutoff late at night. The event proceeds rain or shine, with rules emphasizing its nature as a serious endurance ride, not a casual tour. The route commences in darkness from Clovis, heading south through orchards and vineyards before turning north around mile 50 for the start of the climbing. Riders proceed along the Kings River area, passing Pine Flat Lake, Watts Valley, Burrough Valley, and Auberry. They then descend through San Joaquin River Canyon, with vistas toward Redinger Lake. Later segments incorporate the rough Road 225, nicknamed the “Paris-Roubaix” section, the ascent on Road 274 to Bass Lake, a stretch along the lake shore, and the path toward the old A.G. Wishon Powerhouse. Beyond Kerchoff Reservoir Bridge, the ride includes Powerhouse Grade: a six-mile switchback climb that extends an already substantial day.

About cycling & running in Fresno

Fresno Training Notes

Running: Woodward Park anchors a lot of Fresno running, especially the Woodward Park Bluff Trail and the Woodward Park XC Course. Valley Girls Run Club meets Tuesdays at 6 a.m. and Saturdays at 8 a.m. at The Health Fix and Before Ten Cafe, then uses Woodward Park and the Lewis S. Eaton Trail. Fresno Art Run moves through the Mural District, Downtown Fresno, and the Tower District. Fresno Run Club keeps Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 9 a.m. simple. Fresno Beer Runners and Sole Train Run Club Fresno add easy miles and social legs. Locals circle Shinzen Run/Walk, Fiesta 10K & Mile Run, and Hot Fudge Sundae Run as anchor events.

Cycling: Fresno Cycling Club gives the city a real ride calendar, with The A-Train, The Killer Bees, All-Roads Riders, Filipino American Cycling Team (FACT), and Velo Kings Racing. All-Roads Riders chase dirt roads, fire roads, canal banks, and gravel roads, so cyclocross legs and bike handling matter. The Circuit, Pine Flat Loop, Powerhouse Loop, Hume Lake Loop, and Auberry - North Fork Loop cover plenty of base miles. Bass Lake route runs 37 miles and feels like proper gran fondo prep. Prather and Humphrey's bring 5-8% grades, while Tollhouse Grade and Big Creek Rd. hit 13+%. Climb to Kaiser, Bass Lake Powerhouse Double Century, and the 30-Day Climbing Challenge sit on the calendar.

Season: Spring and fall treat Fresno best for running, riding, intervals, and longer Z2 days. Winter mornings drop to 7°C while the city gets serious sunshine. m. m. FriYAY Run Club Runs. Cyclists move climbing days toward the cooler hours and keep flatter Woodward-to-Friant style rides handy. 1°C. Mornings can touch freezing, and December keeps only 42 percent of daylight time in sunshine because tule fog changes the rhythm.
