Run for a Resident

Run for a Resident is a small community race in Sutton, Nebraska, held at Sutton Community Home on North Saunders Avenue. It takes place on a Saturday morning in late June, starting at 8:00 a.m., and provides two straightforward choices: a timed 5K and a 1-mile event for those seeking a shorter run. Both runners and walkers are welcome, and strollers may participate from the rear of the starting line. The start and finish are located at the Sutton Community Home circle drive, maintaining the event's connection to the place it benefits. The 5K features professional timing, with results posted and emailed, a single water station, overall male and female awards, and age-group awards ranging from 10-and-under to 60-plus. Entry includes a shirt and post-race refreshments, though registration closes prior to race day. Proceeds benefit the Sutton Community Home Building Project, linking the race to the home’s mission of providing care, independence, and dignity for its residents.

Nebraska State Fair Marathon

The Nebraska State Fair Marathon is a race series held in Omaha, Nebraska's largest city. The primary event is a marathon, where runners complete the standard 26.2-mile distance within a city situated on the Missouri River. Local time in Omaha shifts between Central Standard Time and Central Daylight Time based on the season. The course details are sparse, but the location is well-defined. Omaha is approximately 1,060 feet above sea level and serves as the core of a metropolitan area housing about one million residents. Established in 1854 and incorporated in 1857, the city was named for the Omaha people. This background provides the race with a Nebraska setting that includes a local history extending beyond the basic race information.

About cycling & running in Grand Island

Grand Island Base Miles

Running: Grand Island gives runners flat, honest miles without much drama. Locals use the Beltline/John Brownell trail from Sucks Lake west by the cemetery, CCC, and Stuhr Museum. The trail around Eagle Scout lake is nice too but it can be windy out there. The loop is 5 km with 16 m of gain. No named run club shows up here. The Nebraska State Fair Marathon is the anchor event, and the Pumb & Pantry Nebraska State Fair Marathon keeps the flat-course crowd interested.

Cycling: Grand Island riding is base-mile country first. Riders get 61 cycle routes and 1,506 km of tracked riding, so Z2 days are easy to stack. The Kool-Aid Classic Bicycle Tour is the anchor ride, and it points people toward paved country roads. No named cycling club shows up here. The climbs are small and honest, because GI is so flat. The typical climb here runs 4 km and gains 59 m.

Season: July is the month that shows up for riding in Grand Island. Summer runners use Eagle Scout lake, Stolley Park, and George Clayton Hall County Park when they want steady intervals or relaxed miles. Eagle Scout lake can be windy out there, so locals treat it like free strength work. The north-south trail on the west edge of town links Shoemaker school to Dairy Queen and connects with Eagle Scout. Winter has no named race note here, so runners and riders keep it simple with repeatable loops, flat pacing, and steady Z2 when the weather lets them out.
