High Point Sprint Youth Triathlon

Children swim at Oak Hollow Lake, then bike and run starting from Oak Hollow Marina in High Point, North Carolina. The High Point Sprint Youth Triathlon is a summer event offering two age-group distances: ages 7-10 compete on the short course, and ages 11-15 on the long course. The short course includes a 100-yard swim, 3-mile bike ride, and 0.75-mile run. The long course covers a 200-yard swim, 6-mile bike ride, and a 1.5-mile run. This format provides a straightforward introduction to the sport for new triathletes, and a complete swim-bike-run event at the marina for experienced young racers. Older teens, specifically those aged 13-15 and 16-19, have the option to enter the High Point Sprint Triathlon, a distinct event from the youth race.

E3 Endurance 7.03 Super-Sprint Triathlon

The E3 Endurance 7.03 Super-Sprint Triathlon takes place at Cardinal Swim & Tennis Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, starting at 7:00 AM. This event is designed for athletes aged 5 to 19, with distances adjusted for each age group. Younger participants complete a shorter swim, bike, and run, while older juniors tackle a more extensive super-sprint course. The triathlon is a component of the NC Junior Tri Series, a six-event season organized by E3 Endurance, which has been organizing youth triathlons annually since 2008. The senior age groups and the junior relay race feature a 300-yard swim, an 8K bike ride, and a 3K run, totaling 7.03 miles. Younger participants have progressively shorter distances, including a 200-yard swim for ages 11-12, and a 25-yard swim, 2K bike, and 1K run for ages 5-6. E3 Endurance also provides four weeks of optional pre-race coaching led by youth and junior coach Matthew Clancy, focusing on swim, bike, and run fundamentals, transitions, pacing, and race strategy. Athletes in the series can earn points at each event for season standings. The Greensboro race includes a Dad's Division super sprint following the youth events, consisting of a 100-meter swim, a single bike lap, and a single run lap.

About cycling & running in Greensboro-High Point

Greensboro-High Point Training Ground

Running: Greensboro runners put a lot of base miles on the Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway and the Bicentennial Greenway. 2 paved miles before it connects to the High Point Greenway. You can ride a 25-mile paved loop, and High Point Athletic Park gives locals a public quarter-mile track for intervals. High Point Athletic Club, Brown Truck Brewery Badass Run Club, Goofy Foot Taproom Run Club, High Point Pub Runners, and Dram & Draught keep the week social. Elm Street Athletic Festival and Cannonball Running Festival anchor the calendar.

Cycling: Local riders use the Greensboro High Point Winston Salem Greenway Loop when they want a proper long day. The loop is 9 km and gains 1,615 m, so it works for Z2, tempo, or gran fondo legs. The Triad Ride List keeps road and mountain bike rides moving around Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, and Burlington. Bicentennial Greenway, High Point Greenway, and Salem Lake Trail cover paved path, packed dirt, and gravel. The area has 1 mile of singletrack. Big Bertha sits between Jamestown Park and Gibson Park, and the A&Y adds rolling hills and one big hill.

Season: Most of the trails are shaded, which helps in the summer heat. Salem Lake Trail keeps riders and runners under trees for a 7-mile dirt and gravel loop. The High Point Greenway moves through hardwood and pine forests, parks, and residential areas, so steady base miles stay easy to stitch together. Rainy winter days change the feel because rainy days lead to slick red clay on trails. Paved choices like the A&Y, Bicentennial Greenway, Battleground Military Park, and the High Point Athletic Park track stay useful when singletrack and dirt get messy.
