Milton Youth Tri

Milton Youth Tri is a low-pressure triathlon for ages 5 to 12, with a separate Kids Run after the final triathlon finisher. The race begins with a pool swim at Milton High School's Lieder Family Pool, then proceeds to a bike leg around Schilberg Park and a run that concludes on the track. It is designed for children who may be participating in a triathlon for the first time, not for a highly competitive field. Entry is straightforward, with the triathlon costing $20 and the Kids Run $5. The distances vary by age: younger athletes swim 50 meters, bike 1 mile, and run .4 miles, while ages 10 to 12 swim 150 meters, bike 3 miles, and run approximately 1 mile. The course utilizes clear loops: pool laps for the swim, laps around Schilberg Park for the bike, and track loops for the run. Helmets are mandatory on the bike, and High Street closes from Hilltop to John Paul for athlete safety. All triathlon finishers receive a shirt and medal, the top three boys and girls in each age group receive awards, and event proceeds support grants that assist young people in participating in other athletic activities.

Janesville Kids Triathlon

The Janesville Kids Triathlon is an annual youth triathlon held at Rockport Pool on Rockport Road in Janesville, Wisconsin. It offers children a short, structured swim-bike-run race: younger participants swim 40 meters in the pool, while 11- and 12-year-olds swim 80 meters. All participants then bike 2.5 miles and run 0.5 miles. The event is designed for young athletes new to triathlon in a low-pressure environment, featuring professional timing, event shirts, and a field limited to 150 racers. The race emphasizes learning the basics alongside finishing quickly. A free Transition Clinic and Q&A session on the Friday before race day allows children to familiarize themselves with the pool, bike course, and run path, and to practice transitions. One parent may assist with setup in the transition area, volunteers provide support with gear and changes, and parents are asked not to accompany participants on the bike and run routes. Awards are given to the fastest finishers in each age group. Younger children, ages 2 to 6, can participate in the Race The Gator Fun Run, a brief run on the final section of the triathlon course, where parents and strollers are permitted.

Fall into Fall Trail 5k Run/Walk

The Fall into Fall Trail 5k Run/Walk is a 5K event held on the Mendota Trail in southwest Virginia. This route utilizes a rail-trail connecting Bristol and Mendota. It is a straightforward distance run/walk, not a technical mountain race, but its environment provides more character than a road 5K. The entire trail spans 12.5 miles, beginning with a paved half-mile from the Bristol trailhead before transitioning to fine gravel and chat. The Mendota Trail follows a former railroad right-of-way and features 17 restored trestles, including crossings over creeks and the North Fork of the Holston River. The trail ascends from Bristol, then descends through The Cut and Wolf Run Gorge towards Mendota, passing former railroad stops like Benhams, Phillips Switch, and Abrams Falls. The trail is used by runners, walkers, hikers, and cyclists. Its railroad history is evident; the line once handled passenger and freight service for 82 years, and its notable steam train was the Lonesome Pine Special.

About cycling & running in Janesville-Beloit

Janesville-Beloit Training Notes

Running: Locals run Janesville-Beloit through parks first, then link streets when they want cleaner mileage. Palmer Park, Riverside Park, Rockport Park, and the Robert O Cook Memorial Arboretum give the week its shape, and Turtle Creek brings a series of winding trails mostly shaded under the cover of the tree line. The Turtle Creek trails run 03 km and gain +119 m, so locals use them when Z2 needs a little bite. Locals lean on the race calendar more than a named run club here, with Race for Freedom 5K Run/Walk, Race for a Place to Call Home, and Festival Foods Turkey Trot Janesville as anchor dates.

Cycling: Locals ride the 31 miles of paved trail for base miles, then swing south when gravel sounds better. The trail runs 5 miles from Tripp Road to Afton. The route options range from 8 miles to 103 miles. Rockport Park handles the singletrack mood, and Palmer Park has The Pump. Wuthering Hills is the named climb marker, and Friends of Rock County Parks Bicycle Tour is the anchor bike event.

Season: Mid-April through mid-October feels like the clean training window because restrooms are available from April 15 through October 15. Summer keeps the parks busy and simple, but city parks and trails do not allow pets from May 15 through September 15. Locals still get intervals, Z2, and long rides done on the paved system, the Peace Trail, and Rockport Park. Winter changes the surface more than the routine, since the trails stay available for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, and Janesville Velo Club keeps people honest with the 2026 Winter Challenge.
