Lake Area Runners Presents Swamp Stomp 1/2 Marathon & 1 Mile Fun Run

The Swamp Stomp Half Marathon begins and ends at Graywood Park in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Participants will run on the roads within the Graywood Plantation community. Lake Area Runners organizes the event, which features a flat, fast half marathon for runners aged 14 and older. A 1 Mile Fun Run follows the half marathon, starting from the same line, offering a shorter out-and-back route for families and younger participants. The half marathon route follows neighborhood streets instead of open terrain. Runners will find several water stops and portable restrooms along the course. To earn the medal and jacket, finishers must complete the half marathon within four hours. This time limit accommodates both steady recreational runners and those aiming for a faster finish. Following the race, the event transitions into a park gathering with complimentary food from Bolton Ford, drinks, games, and music.

Gator Gauntlet Off-road Triathlon

The Gator Gauntlet Off-road Triathlon takes athletes through Sam Houston Jones State Park in Lake Charles, Louisiana, beginning and ending at 107 Sutherland Road. This is a short off-road triathlon featuring approximately 4 miles of trail running, 8 miles of mountain biking, and a 1-mile paddle, commencing at 8:00 a.m. CDT and concluding around noon. Participants can compete individually or as a relay team. The course utilizes the park’s trails for the running and biking segments, then proceeds to the Calcasieu West Fork River for the kayak portion. The race is more rugged than a typical road triathlon, as participants navigate dirt trails and river water rather than pavement and a pool or open-water swim. Entry fees are reasonable, with distinct costs for solo competitors and relay teams, and the funds raised support the trails at Sam Houston Jones State Park.

The Lake Area Runners 4 for the Fourth, Swamp Stomp, and Park to Park keep the calendar sharp.

Lake Charles has 31 tracked cycling routes, and those routes cover 727 km. One route runs 9 km and gains 16 m. Another route runs 4 km and gains 42 m. The Craft Street 721 to Nelson Road 2550 route gains 60 m, so the climbs are short and local.

Season: September gives riders the best month, and runners get the same payoff with steadier Z2 and cleaner workout timing. Summer mornings carry 90% average relative humidity, and afternoons still sit at 72%, so locals start early, drink more, and keep hard sessions tight. Lake Charles gets high annual precipitation, so run/walk crews mean it when they say rain or shine. Winter does not turn the place into hill country, and the same flat plain keeps Lakeshore, Graywood, and Sam Houston Jones useful for base miles. Locals swap some summer survival for cooler long runs, longer rides, and better patience on wet days.
