Recurring 5K races near North Stonington
Races that repeat — weekly, monthly or yearly
North Kingstown Firefighters Association Blazing Trail 5K
The Blazing Trail 5K is a fall trail run and walk held at Ryan Park in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. The 5-kilometer course follows park trails and benefits the North Kingstown Firefighters Association. This is the event's second year, and it is designed for both runners and walkers, not exclusively competitive racers.
The race begins and ends at Ryan Park, with the course entirely within the North Kingstown park. Participants of all ages and experience levels are welcome, including first-time runners, families, local residents, and those walking to support the firefighters association. Early registrants will receive a race-day T-shirt, and top finishers in each age group will be awarded medals.
Run for the Pumpkins Trail Run
Rhode Island DEM rules mandate that all participants and volunteers at the Run for the Pumpkins Trail Run wear at least 200 square inches of orange. This fall 5K and 10K trail event takes place at Bradford Preserve in Westerly, Rhode Island, with both races starting and ending at the preserve.
The route starts with approximately one-third of a mile across an open grass field, allowing runners to spread out before entering the narrower trails. The course then proceeds primarily on dirt trails through Town of Westerly land and a section of Woody Hill Management Area, featuring both double-track and single-track paths. Course markings include flags and signs, complemented by seasonal decorations such as ghosts to enhance the pumpkin-themed atmosphere. While walkers are welcome, they are encouraged to opt for the 5K distance; dogs and strollers are not permitted on the course. Prizes will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers and to winners in each age group, with food and refreshments provided to all participants post-race.
Ocean State Rhode Races
Ocean State Rhode Races is a running series in Rhode Island organized by Rhode Races & Events, featuring races and activities across the state. The broader Ocean State Multisport group, based in New England, organizes USAT and USATF sanctioned road races, triathlons, and duathlons. Their stated goal is to encourage more people to exercise and gain the confidence to participate in sanctioned events.
The series functions as a tour of Rhode Island's cities and towns, rather than concentrating events in a single location. Participants can enter individual races or compete in three or more events to achieve Rhode Master status. The organizers also provide virtual events for those seeking a race-like objective from home. The merchandise reflects the local theme with "13.1 Run RI" and "26.2 Run RI" stickers, alongside race shirts for events like Newport, Bristol, and the Ocean State half marathon.
St. Michael School 5K Turkey Trot
The St. Michael School 5K Turkey Trot is a fall road race in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, starting at 9:00 AM and held regardless of weather. The primary event is a timed 5K for runners and walkers, providing official results for those aiming for a personal best or seeking a measured local race. A 1-mile untimed fun run, beginning simultaneously, is intended for children and participants preferring a shorter, less demanding distance.
The event supports St. Michael School and marks its 16th year. Race-day check-in is available before the start. The format is straightforward: run or walk, gather afterward, and remain for food, drinks, prizes, and an awards ceremony for the 5K. The registration process also reflects the community focus, offering a lower-cost fun run and a shirt deadline for early registrants.
CT Veterans Day Race
The CT Veterans Day Race is a Connecticut event held around Veterans Day, featuring a 4-mile run and 3-mile walk and 3-mile ruck options. The purpose is straightforward: participants attend to express gratitude to veterans, with all race proceeds directed to Veteran Service Organizations in Connecticut.
The ruck provides the event's most unique feature. Rather than carrying a predetermined weight, ruck participants place non-perishable food items in a backpack for the 3 miles, then contribute it at the finish to the veterans food pantry at Veterans Base Camp. The race has been held for at least ten years, and its fundraising has aided several Connecticut veteran organizations annually.
Plainfield Salute the Troops 5k, Fun Run, & Soldier Stroll
The Salute the Troops race day is a Wisconsin fundraiser featuring several distances: a 10K, the Dobogai Memorial 5K, a kids' race, a fun run, and a Soldier Stroll. The 10K begins at Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac with a three-hour time limit, suitable for steady racers and those seeking a manageable community race supporting a veterans' cause.
The event raises funds for military veterans. Awards are presented to the overall male and female finishers, age-group winners (0-14 to 70+), and the top male and female veteran finishers. Plaques are given to the two overall winners. This marks the 15th annual edition, with organizers relying on sponsors, volunteers, and returning participants to sustain the event.
Pawtuxet River 5k: Run of the Mills
The Pawtuxet River 5k: Run of the Mills is a 5k run or walk in Coventry, Rhode Island, starting by Rice Memorial Field in the historic village of Anthony. It is an autumn race along the Pawtuxet River, near Route 95, with all proceeds supporting the Pawtuxet River Authority and Watershed Council.
The route follows the Coventry Greenway, also known as the Washington-Secondary bike path, and runs beside the river, crossing three trestle bridges. Runners pass two old mills and go through the Anthony Historic District, a site on the National Register of Historic Places. The race supports local river conservation; the beneficiary is a nonprofit that has worked for over 50 years protecting and restoring the Pawtuxet River watershed across Cranston, Coventry, Scituate, Warwick, and West Warwick.
Husky Run & Ruck 10K, 5K and Fitness Walk
The Husky Run & Ruck takes place during Veterans Day weekend in Storrs, Connecticut. It features a 10K run, a 5K run, and an untimed 1-mile fitness walk. The event is centered at UConn, with ceremonies before and after the races held outside the Student Recreation Center. All three main events begin on Hillside Road in the morning. The 5K has a distinct start area, separate from the 10K and walk.
The 10K route follows the Bonemill loop through the rural Mansfield-Storrs area. All courses include a pass by the Ultimate Sacrifice Memorial on the Great Lawn. Proceeds benefit scholarships for military and veteran students, as well as the Kyle Milliken Fund. This fund honors Navy SEAL Kyle Jeffrey Milliken, a former UConn Track & Field walk-on who died in service. A Blackhawk helicopter landing on the Great Lawn adds a military presence, complementing the standard start line ceremony. A Kids Run concludes under the Hillside Road arch following the primary races.
Stonington Vineyards Wine Run Turkey Trot 5k
The Stonington Vineyards Wine Run Turkey Trot 5k is a Thanksgiving-themed 5k held at Stonington Vineyards in Stonington, Connecticut. It is designed for those seeking a relaxed race day, offering opportunities to run or walk, followed by wine tasting.
The course winds through the vineyard, with the rows of vines and the surrounding Connecticut landscape offering as much appeal as the 5k itself. Stonington Vineyards, a founding member of the Connecticut Wine Trail, produces wines including barrel-fermented Chardonnay, Seaport White, and Triad Rose. J3 Timing provides the race timing and scoring, with results available on their website post-race.

NCYMCA's Pie Run
The NCYMCA's Pie Run begins on Thanksgiving Day with participants gathering in the Newport County YMCA parking lot. The in-person event features a USATF-sanctioned 5-mile competitive race. Walkers and families have the option of a 3-mile noncompetitive run/walk. The series also provides virtual 5-mile and 3-mile options, allowing those unable to attend in person to participate in the holiday event.
Over 2,000 walkers and runners typically attend, establishing it as a large community morning rather than a small club race. The Pie Run was initiated by the Newport Running Club and is now organized by the Newport County YMCA. Attendees are encouraged to bring food donations for the MLK Community Center, and race proceeds benefit the Y's Community Support Campaign, funding local programs and scholarships.
