RYR Endurance Race Weekend
SAT NOV 14
The RYR Endurance Race Weekend is an annual event held in Owensboro, Kentucky, featuring a marathon, half marathon, 50K ultra, 10K, and 5K spread across two days. The marathon structure is distinctive: a Saturday marathon with a 9-hour time limit, followed by a Sunday competitive marathon for those aiming for a Boston qualifier or a personal best. Both marathons utilize the same USATF-certified course, which also includes the area's first certified marathon and half marathon routes. The course is a multi-loop out-and-back on an asphalt greenway with minimal elevation gain, following a creek, passing two lakes, and crossing wooded areas. This loop design allows spectators to view participants multiple times from a single location, and runners have access to standard aid stations as well as personal support tables. The Saturday marathon shares the course with the half marathon and 50K, whereas the Sunday marathon has a limited field and runs exclusively. All participants receive a shirt, all finishers receive a substantial medal, and all profits benefit the Wendell Foster Center.
Wendell Foster Half Marathon & 5K
SAT MAR 20
The Wendell Foster Half Marathon & 5K weekend is based in Owensboro, Kentucky. The race expo and check-in are held at the Owensboro Convention Center prior to race day. Runners collect bibs and shirts at the expo, which also features running gear, local vendors, hydration and nutrition products, photo opportunities, local organizations, and supporters of Wendell Foster. While Friday expo attendance is optional, all participants must check in before the race; early check-in helps reduce race-day lines. The 5K begins and ends at Smothers Park on the Owensboro riverfront, located at 199 West Veterans Boulevard. This race is open to all ages and suitable for walkers, joggers, novice racers, families, friends, and competitive runners. The event benefits Wendell Foster, and the 5K concludes with an official after-party at Goodwood.
VICTORY RACES - Marathon, Half, and 5K
SAT APR 3
Victory Races hosts a marathon, half marathon, and 5K within Vermillion Rise Mega Park, a former secret military munitions compound in Vermillion County. The marathon and half marathon courses are flat, traffic-free, and USATF-certified, making them suitable for runners aiming for national qualifying standards or a Boston Marathon qualifier. The 5K offers a shorter option to run through the same distinctive location. The route crosses grounds once used for supplying explosives during World War II and storing military weapons through the early and mid-1900s. The site now supports local industry, with remnants of military ruins and old manufacturing facilities still visible on the property. The race acknowledges this history through military-themed shirts, unique bib numbers, and custom finisher medals, while providing discounts for veterans and students from Vermillion and Parke counties. Proceeds benefit the Vermillion Trails Alliance, dedicated to expanding trail and recreation options in Vermillion County.

About Half Marathon races in Owensboro

Owensboro Training Notes

Owensboro hosts 3 Half Marathon races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Yellow Creek Trail gives runners about 2 miles of gravel, and Riverside Walk gives the city centre a 1-mile paved shakeout along the Ohio River. Yellow Creek Trail gives runners about 2 miles of gravel, and Riverside Walk gives the city centre a 1-mile paved shakeout along the Ohio River. Trail of Dreams, Legend Park Trail, Moreland Trail, and Joe Ford Nature Park fill the shorter Z2 days. Rudy Mines Trail brings the punchy stuff, and the Rudy Rumble Trail Run makes it matter. Owensboro YMCA BBQ 5K, MLK Dreamer's Dash 5k, and Run For Foxy Roxie keep the road-race calendar familiar.

Owensboro Bicycle Club gives riders the local pack, with group rides 4 nights a week and nearly every morning during the warmer parts of the year. The club pulls from Owensboro and the surrounding counties, so group rides have consistent turnout during the season. Underground Railroad Cycling Route and TransAmerica Trail both pass through Owensboro, while Keen Road, Sutherland Road to Pettit Road, Barclay Ave, and Sharp Rd give gravel bikes quick dirt. The area has 25 miles of singletrack designed by mountain bikers. The main loop is 53 km and gains 261 m.

Warmer parts of the year suit both sports best, especially when the Owensboro Bicycle Club rides stop feeling like bottle-freezing business. Summer brings hot, humid days, so locals start early, keep intervals honest, and save longer Z2 rides or runs for the steadier parts of the week. The Greenbelt, Riverside Walk, and Yellow Creek Trail stay useful because shade, pavement, and gravel let you choose the effort. Winter brings moderately cold days and bigger day-to-day swings, so runners stay flexible on pace and cyclists trade some pack miles for shorter rides, Rudy Mines laps, or maintenance miles when the weather opens.
