Endless Mountains Adventure Race

The Endless Mountains Adventure Race takes teams into Vermont's Green Mountains for a five-day expedition race focused on navigation, trekking, biking, and packrafting. Rootstock Racing organizes the event, and the full race qualifies for the Adventure Racing World Series. A 24-hour Lite version runs as a one-day expedition-style race in southern Vermont, offering newer racers a shorter introduction to the format while still requiring self-sufficiency. The Lite race follows a point-to-point course and shares its finish timing with the five-day race, allowing first-time expedition racers to finish near teams completing the full event. Race headquarters for the Lite event is at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, near the southern Vermont border. The route includes rugged terrain, waterways for packrafting, bike and trek sections, and navigation through areas connected to the region's industrial history. Participants can include top adventure racers, experienced teams, and individuals new to expedition racing.

Mount Greylock Hill Climb Time Trial

The Mount Greylock Hill Climb Time Trial challenges cyclists with a nine-mile ascent to the highest point in Massachusetts. Participants begin individually from Western Gateway Heritage State Park in North Adams, with 30-second intervals, competing against the clock rather than other riders. Since drafting is prohibited, the outcome depends solely on each cyclist's strength, pacing, and endurance for the sustained climb. The course ascends through the northern section of the Mt Greylock State Reservation, concluding at the summit of Mount Greylock. The auto road remains open during the event, requiring riders to adhere to standard traffic regulations. Spectators can observe from the roadside or the summit area, where parking might incur a nominal charge. Following the finish, participants must descend the mountain under their own power or with pre-arranged transportation. The Northampton Cycling Club hosts this event, which is included in the Bike Up the Mountain Points Series.

About cycling & running in Pittsfield

Pittsfield Base Miles

Running: Locals run downtown, Clapp Park, Canoe Meadows Wildlife Sanctuary, and Pittsfield State Forest when the legs want dirt. 5 to 5 miles by pace group. The route covers 42 km and gains 182 m, so it works for steady base miles. The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail runs 73 km and gains 40 m. Tails & Trails State Forest Run, Notchview Ultra, and Sweltering Summer Ultra sit on the local anchor race list.

Cycling: Locals ride the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail for clean Z2 and go west or south when the climbing itch shows up. Berkshire Bike Path Council keeps the path talk alive, and Berkshire County has a real bike community. Kennedy Park Loop runs 4 mi when you want rougher work. 7%. Mount Greylock Hill Climb Time Trial, Berkshire 40- Race Day XCM, JAM Fund Grand Fundo, and Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder are the anchor events.

Season: Summer is the best block here, with warm, pleasant days and enough daylight for intervals after work or long Z2 before dinner. Locals use Clapp Park, downtown Pittsfield, and Pittsfield State Forest when the air feels good and the legs need routine. The city sits at 1,039 ft (317 m), so winter changes the whole setup fast. Runners keep grinding when the paths are slick, and cyclists shift toward fat biking at Pittsfield State Forest, Kennedy Park, Mount Greylock, and Greylock Glen when the snow makes the road bike feel pointless.
