SAT OCT 3
Miles for Migraine - DC/VA/MD is a 2-mile walk for the Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland area, held at Laurel Hill Park Central Green on Lorton Road in Lorton, Virginia. It takes place in the fall and is the 10th annual edition of this local Miles for Migraine walk. The format is a short walk, not a road race, designed for participants seeking an accessible distance. The setting is a park green in Northern Virginia, providing the DC/VA/MD series a single gathering point outside the city instead of a downtown street course.

The event includes a 2-mile walk and a professionally timed 5K run, allowing participants to walk or race for a recorded result. The event supports Migraine & Headache Awareness, Treatment & Research. Funds benefit the MedStar Georgetown Headache Clinic, local migraine research, fellowship training, and Miles for Migraine programs and services. Participants in the walk and run receive medals. The route winds through Waynesboro neighborhoods and follows the South River Greenway, featuring autumn colors and fallen leaves. Aid stations are provided, participants receive a race-day shirt, and a food-and-drink gathering follows the finish. The Fall Foliage Art Festival, featuring artists nationwide, takes place downtown the same weekend.
First Mount Zion Baptist Church 7th Annual Healthy Start Mind & Body 5K Run/Walk
SAT OCT 3
First Mount Zion Baptist Church’s Healthy Start Mind & Body 5K Run/Walk is a fall 5K that includes a Kids Fun Run. The event raises awareness of Alzheimer’s disease, connecting that cause to the importance of keeping both mind and body active. Participants may also donate to the Alzheimer’s Association, which funds Alzheimer’s care, programming, support, and research.
Racin’ to Beat Cancer 5k, 10k, & Half
SAT OCT 3

RunThrough USA Druid Hill Park (Baltimore) 5K & 10K October 2026

MoCo CARES Charity Race
SAT OCT 3
The MoCo CARES Charity Race begins at 7503 Muncaster Mill Road in Gaithersburg, Maryland, offering 1.6 km, 5 km, and 10 km distances. This local charity run, organized by So What Else and Covenant Life School, focuses on fundraising for local charities and assisting children and families in need throughout Montgomery County. The course features short-distance paths arranged by volunteers, including a route similar to a 1-mile run and a 5K route. Local families, businesses, volunteers, and Companies Who CARE participate in the event. Capital Youth Outreach Club collaborates with So What Else for service support. Volunteers manage the event's logistics, such as setting up signs and booths, encouraging runners, ensuring children's safety, participating in a post-race service project, and assisting with cleanup. Formerly known as the LaunchCARES Charity Race, it originated as a small community gathering before growing into a county-wide initiative aimed at combating hunger.

About 5K races in Washington

Washington Training Notes

Washington hosts 262 5K races in 2026 within 80 km of the city centre — upcoming dates, recurring series, and other races nearby, all in one place.

Locals run the Mall when they want easy miles with a view. The Mall loop is 7 miles by Lincoln, FDR, and MLK. Rock Creek Trail gives you about 10 paved miles when Z2 needs shade. Beach Drive closes about 4 miles to cars on weekends and holidays, so intervals feel cleaner there. The Anacostia Riverwalk Trail gives you 15+ miles with no stoplights. Potomac River Running Store, Georgetown Running Company, Nike Georgetown, and Pacers Running Company keep group runs moving. The Cherry Blossom 10 Miler is the big anchor event.

Locals ride the Mount Vernon Trail when they want a simple paved 17-mile spin in Northern Virginia. Cascade Bicycle Club keeps the wider Washington scene busy with Free Group Rides 365 days a year across the Puget Sound region. US Bicycle Route 10 gives base-mile types over 400 miles from the Idaho border to Anacortes. Duthie Hill and Tiger Mountain are the singletrack calls when the dirt is wet enough to grip. US Bicycle Route 10 runs 89 miles with 2,300 feet of climbing. West Tiger 3 Loop is the hard cyclocross-brain workout.

April puts runners on the Ellipse for Cherry Blossom season, and May through October is the best long outdoor block. Washington D.C. summers run hot and humid, so locals move runs early, keep Rock Creek Park in the rotation, and save exposed Mall work for shorter efforts. Seattle dirt usually gets good by mid-June to mid-July, and the driest days in Seattle land between July 15th and August 15th. Winters in Washington D.C. are generally snow-free, so running stays steady, while riders in the Northwest just get ready to ride wet.
