About this race
Georgia Tech’s Mini 500, a homecoming tricycle race held at Peters Parking Deck, was initiated by the Ramblin’ Reck Club in 1969. Men’s teams complete 15 laps covering 5.4 miles, and women’s teams complete 10 laps covering 3.6 miles. These distances are covered on small tricycles, making the course more challenging than the mileage suggests.
Each team consists of up to four riders and three pit crew members. Rider changes are permitted after each lap, with no restriction on the number of substitutions. The pit crew must rotate the front tire a minimum of three times before the race concludes, with a limit of one such rotation per lap. The event functions as a demanding endurance trial, and its campus reputation was enhanced by an Emmy-winning public service announcement.
