About this race
The No Business 100 starts and finishes at Pickett CCC Memorial State Park in Jamestown, Tennessee, sending runners on one large loop through the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. This 100- to 102-mile trail ultramarathon, depending on the year's direction, includes approximately 14,500 feet of climbing and descent. The course is primarily trail, crossing from Tennessee into Kentucky and back, with a 34-hour time limit for completion. Established in 2017, the event is organized by Ultranaut Running, a grassroots trail running group from Knoxville.
The course ventures deep into the Big South Fork, where challenges stem from continuous climbing, descending, and rugged terrain, not just the distance. Runners encounter sandstone arches, rock walls, caves, hanging bridges, stone steps, and wooden staircases, supported by 15 aid stations along the loop. The race alternates direction annually, ensuring repeat participants face a different challenge each time. The name originates from local lore; some believed settlers had no business settling the harsh land, while others cautioned outsiders against entering.
