About this race

The Georgia Death Race begins before dawn at Vogel State Park in Blairsville, sending runners approximately 74 miles through the North Georgia mountains to Amicalola Falls State Park. This point-to-point trail ultramarathon takes place in March, featuring around 14,000 feet of climbing and close to 28,000 feet of total elevation change. The name is direct, as is the start: the initial 8 miles alone involve about 3,500 feet of elevation gain and loss. The route proceeds west and then south across remote mountain trails, incorporating the Benton MacKaye and Duncan Ridge Trails. A 5:00 a.m. start places runners on Duncan Ridge near sunrise, with Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest point, visible. Early in the course, runners climb 3.8 miles up and over Coosa Bald, gaining and losing about 2,300 feet in that segment. Later points of interest include the Toccoa Swinging Bridge and the finish at Amicalola Falls. Course records are maintained for the 74-mile version, though this is also the type of race where strong runners might be pulled at an aid station or finish with a DNF.
