The Thelma and Louise Marathon and Half begins and ends in the remote Behind the Rocks area near Moab, Utah, featuring red rock walls, desert washes, and high-country vistas. This women-focused trail race, part of the Run Moab Series, offers 50K, marathon, half marathon, and 15K distances. The longer races commence early, followed by the half marathon and 15K. All participants must carry a reusable cup, as aid stations do not provide disposable ones.
The course incorporates dirt roads, slickrock, sandy washes, technical doubletrack, and smoother jeep trails. The 50K and marathon ascend from approximately 4,516 feet to around 5,726 feet. The 50K involves nearly 3,000 feet of elevation gain and loss; the half marathon and 15K remain at higher elevations but involve less climbing. The route crosses near Lone Rock, noted by the race as a site connected to Ancestral Pueblo ceremonies, and offers views of the fins of Behind the Rocks Wilderness Area and the La Sal Mountains. Complimentary camping at Mad Moose Base Camp provides a campout atmosphere for runners and their families.
