About this race

At Trystan's Backyard Ultra, a bell signals runners departing from the same corral hourly for another 4.167-mile lap at La Riviere Park in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. This is a traditional backyard ultra: participants repeat the loop until only one runner remains, either by missing the next start or failing to finish within the hour. The main race has no set end, while the 1-Lap Family Fun Run/Walk allows all ages to complete the course once without a time limit. The loop consists mainly of singletrack through woods, with grass, dirt, and light gravel underfoot, and approximately 200 to 350 feet of elevation gain each circuit. Runners may establish a 3x3 meter personal space near the start/finish for supplies, rest, and equipment between laps. The race venue provides basic water, electrolytes, and snacks. Anyone continuing after dark requires a headlamp or other illumination. Funds raised benefit local causes, including Hamann's Helping Hands and paralysis research, with a cash prize awarded to the final runner.
