About this race

Vest Up 4 the Fallen is a 65-mile memorial tribute walk and ruck from Boston Common to the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, held on Memorial Day Weekend. It honors fallen veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders, while raising support for their families through retreats, programs, and community outreach. The day starts before sunrise with a ceremony at the Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial, then walkers and relay teams head south toward Buzzards Bay. Participants can cover the full distance solo or split it among a relay team of four to twelve members. The route follows public roads and paths through Quincy, Plymouth, and Kingston, with stretches on Route 53 and 3A South as it moves down the Massachusetts coast toward Cape Cod. The weighted vest is the signature symbol, but there is no required weight and participants may walk without one. Relay teams bring their own support vehicle, and night miles require high-visibility gear, a valid ID, and enough awareness to stay safe on open roads. Anyone who steps off the route for a break is expected to return on foot, which keeps the tribute continuous from Boston to the cemetery finish on Memorial Day Monday morning.
