FORESTRAIL HIRUZEN-SHINJO is a trail running race held at GREENable HIRUZEN in Okayama Prefecture. It utilizes the mountain terrain around Shinjo Village and Hiruzen in Maniwa City. The event takes place in late October and features three course options: a 65 km long course with 2,720 m of accumulated elevation gain, a 37 km middle course with 1,250 m, and a 16 km short course with 460 m. Cutoff times are set at 14 hours, 10 hours, and 5 hours, respectively, indicating that even the shortest distance presents a genuine mountain challenge.
The race has a participant limit of 800 runners, allocated as 200 for the long course, 350 for the middle course, and 250 for the short course. The course runs with views of Mt. Daisen and the Hiruzen Sanza. The race places significant importance on trail preservation; participants are requested to make a separate donation for Hiruzen nature conservation. Additionally, the Greenable Act entry option allows runners to engage in trail maintenance activities prior to the race, receiving instruction and guidance. Long-course participants must provide evidence of prior endurance, such as a completed 100 km ultramarathon or a marathon finished in under 4 hours. All participants must be adults capable of racing independently and demonstrating respect for the natural surroundings. Runners are chip-timed, receive local specialty products as participation awards, and prizes are awarded to the top six finishers overall and the top three in each age group.
