The Kyogoku Town 2-Hour Trail Relay Marathon takes place in Kyogoku Town on a loop just under 1 km long. This loop incorporates half of a 2 km cross-country ski course used in winter, featuring approximately 20 meters of elevation change per lap. Runners navigate this consistent short climb and descent for the duration of the two hours. Kamakuran organized the inaugural event, with registrations managed via E-mosicom. While primarily a team relay, a few individuals also competed solo.
The event had a distinctly local and somewhat muddy atmosphere. Parent-child teams began their runs despite the rain, and relay teams frequently overtook the solo participants. One solo runner initially held the lead, moved to second place by the third lap, and maintained a consistent pace to finish second, finding the exertion challenging for their heart rate. Following the race, attendees participated in an awards ceremony and an extended rock-paper-scissors tournament. Some participants cooled off by rinsing off sweat and mud in the Shiribetsu River, which was running high and felt refreshing, before warming up at Kyogoku Onsen.
