Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk 2026

The Emancipation Day TIMED Run/Walk begins and ends at the Black Cultural Centre, 10 Cherry Brook Road, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. This timed 5K run/walk takes place in mid-August, starting at 9:30 a.m. The event is organized by BLM ~ In this TOGETHER, and there is no entry fee for the 5K. Its purpose is clear: to honor Emancipation Day, recognize slavery in Canada, and highlight anti-Black racism, both historical and current. The course starts at the Black Cultural Centre, proceeds along Cherry Brook Road to Loon Lake Road, turns around on Loon Lake Road, and returns via the same path to Cherry Brook Road and the finish line. The event is designed for both runners and walkers, not exclusively racers. It concludes back at the Black Cultural Centre with a post-race community gathering. BLM ~ In this TOGETHER was established in Cherry Brook, Nova Scotia, following George Floyd's death, with a mission focused on dismantling inequality, racism, police brutality, and systemic racism. T-shirts will be available for purchase at the venue, separate from the race kit.
