The Azkoitia-Azpeitia is a half marathon held in Gipuzkoa, within the Spanish Basque Country, crossing the route between the towns of Azkoitia and Azpeitia. It is an open event; participants must be over 14 years old and are welcome regardless of sex, nationality, or club affiliation. Annually, over 1,000 individuals participate, including both international elite athletes and amateur runners sharing the same course.
The course is designed for speed, featuring a predominantly downhill path on asphalt through the Urola River valley. Green mountains form the backdrop for much of the race, with the pass before the Loyola Sanctuary serving as a distinct landmark. The race concludes with a long straight section on Azpeitia's streets, where local spectators line the route and offer enthusiastic support. It is held in remembrance of local champion Diego Garcia and is known by the moniker "la media maraton del corazon" — the half marathon of the heart.
