The Triatlón Challenge Islas Cíes is a middle-distance triathlon held in Vigo, on Spain’s Galician coast in the Province of Pontevedra. It takes place in mid-September and follows the Half Ironman format: 1.9 km swimming, 90 km road cycling, and 21.1 km road running.
The race course winds through coastal, beach, city, and natural landscapes, distinguishing it from a typical closed-course event on anonymous roads. Both the cycling and running segments are on paved surfaces. The event is designated as a Triatlón MD, the Spanish abbreviation for middle-distance triathlon. Finishers also identifies it as the most well-known triathlon in its category, with imagery provided by the Vigo City Council.
