A flowing pool and a sports ground give this 18th-edition aquathlon a more relaxed feel than typical open-water events. The setup is straightforward and welcoming: swim in the moving-water pool, then run on the ground. The 18th Ichikawa Aquathlon is designed for first-timers and children, not for intense racing.
The unique aspect is that the swim takes place in a pool where participants can touch the bottom, allowing children and less experienced swimmers to feel comfortable without deep-water anxiety. On race day, Olympian Kiyomi Niwata will also lead a swim lesson, making it an event where a young athlete can learn, finish with a smile, and look forward to future competitions.
