Summer Cross Country in Chiba is a midsummer cross-country race at Showa no Mori in Chiba City, in Chiba Prefecture. The race is in its 13th running and draws more than 1,000 runners a year from across Japan, making it Japan's largest summer cross-country event. It is built for hot-weather running rather than road-race speed, with grass and park terrain at Showa no Mori and a schedule that runs from early morning into the afternoon.
The program ranges from 1.5 km to 30 km, so the field includes serious runners, younger athletes, pairs, families, relay teams, and even a 1.5 km Dog RUNRUN category. The 20 km individual race has both an athlete division with a 2-hour limit and a more relaxed division with a 2 hour 30 minute limit, while the ekiden options cover 20 km for teams of 4 to 8 and 30 km for teams of 4 to 12. Shorter races at 10 km, 5 km, 3 km, and 1.5 km come in individual and pair formats, with U-18 categories and special pricing for younger runners. Access to Showa no Mori is easier with the Ken-O Expressway Oamishirasato Smart IC nearby.
