SUMMER NIGHT RUN Okinawa guides runners around Okinawa Cellular Stadium Naha on a 1.4 km loop. The course utilizes the exterior of the ballpark, the second-floor concourse, and the playing field. This is a summer night running event starting at 7:00 PM. Its primary format is a three-hour relay for men’s, women’s, mixed, and corporate teams. Solo runners may also enter, with the objective remaining the same: achieve maximum distance before the three-hour cutoff.
Relay teams consist of 2 to 12 participants, with each runner completing a minimum of one lap before passing the sash to the next teammate. The sash contributes to the race's ekiden-like atmosphere, distinguishing it from a typical road race; even solo participants wear one. The event stands out in Okinawa for being held on a Friday night. The stadium's configuration provides waiting teammates and spectators with a clear vantage point for sitting, dining, observing, and cheering from the stands. Stage performances occur during the race, positioning the night as a team outing as much as a contest. Registration is open to healthy runners aged 16 and above, requiring parental consent for minors, and the participant limit is set at 500 teams.
