The Sea Ice Marathon takes place in late winter at Luleå, located in Norrbotten County, northern Sweden. Participants can select from four race distances: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, and the full marathon of 42.195 km. This variety allows runners to opt for a brief run along the snow or a complete marathon distance.
Each race distance follows a single-loop course. The 10 km and 21 km events are designated as ice courses, whereas the 5 km is a road course. Event descriptions indicate the routes are situated by the coast, within natural settings, and on snow. The full marathon is also a single 42.195 km loop.
