Maui Oceanfront Marathon

The Maui Oceanfront Marathon begins at the Shops at Wailea on Wailea Iki Road, taking runners on a 26.2-mile point-to-point course along Maui’s south and west shores. This road marathon utilizes asphalt and a shoulder bike path, with much of the running surface measuring only 4 to 8 feet wide. As a nonprofit community event, its proceeds benefit local school teams, clubs, and other Maui nonprofit organizations that assist in staging the marathon. The course circles the Shops at Wailea, exits via the Marriott driveway, proceeds south for a mile, then turns back near the Fairmont. It continues onto South Kihei Road through oceanfront Kihei Town. Approaching the halfway point, it shifts to Highway 30 above Maalaea Bay, heading toward the finish line outside Launiupoko Beach Park. Participants will encounter ocean and mountain vistas, potential whale sightings, and numerous public beaches and pullouts for spectators. The race provides runners with reusable HydraPak Speedcups at the start, foregoing disposable cups. The certified course is also eligible as a Boston Marathon qualifier.

The Maui 5K is a community 5K run/walk on Maui, featuring a 1 Mile run/walk and a focus on children. The race takes place in March and benefits Maui County schools. Participants can select a timed or untimed 5K during online registration. Those who register on race day will run untimed and are ineligible for age-group awards. The course follows an out-and-back oceanfront route near Launiupoko Beach, south of Lahaina. The start and finish are located just outside Launiupoko Beach Park on Highway 30. It is a flat, fast course, fully closed to traffic, making it suitable for walkers, families, first-timers, and runners seeking a quick 5K. The event supports school fitness, with all proceeds directed to the school designated by each registrant, aiding youth sports, recreation programs, equipment, and active-lifestyle initiatives for Hawaii’s children.

Maui Marathon and Half Marathon April 26, 2026

The Maui Marathon and Half Marathon begins and ends on the mauka lane of Kāʻanapali Parkway, directly across from Whalers Village. This Maui road-race series takes place in April, offering marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distances. For this year's event, the full and half marathon fields are full, but registration remains open for the shorter races. Runners proceed along Kāʻanapali Parkway. The race routes themselves are the same, though the start, finish, and awards locations have been relocated due to nearby water-system construction. The Westin Maui Resort and Spa ballroom will serve as the venue for the expo, packet pickup, indoor awards ceremony, post-race music, refreshments, and a photo area for finishers, age-group winners, teams, and families. Traffic management will be in effect on Kāʻanapali Parkway, particularly near Whalers Village, Kāʻanapali Beach Hotel, and Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.
