This race honors the courage and sacrifice of U.S. Army Rangers who, in 1993, fast-roped into Mogadishu, Somalia. They fought through urban combat, defending crash sites and protecting wounded comrades. Many ran under fire to reach armored vehicles in what became known as the Mogadishu Mile. The course is an out-and-back on a paved trail at Ascarate Park, with timing designed for parents to run and then assist their children in the fun run. It's part of the Ranger Memorial Triad; complete all three races in a year for a special T-shirt and medal.
