The Big Tesuque Trail Run begins at 10,000 feet at the Aspen Vista trailhead, located off Hyde Park Road near the Santa Fe Ski Area in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This 12-mile out-and-back race utilizes the Aspen Vista Trail. It typically takes place on the first Saturday of October, coinciding with the aspen foliage change. Participants ascend approximately six miles and 2,000 feet to the Tesuque Peak radio towers, reaching an elevation just over 12,000 feet, before descending back to the starting gate.
The course is entirely on a Forest Service road, presenting clear challenges: high altitude, consistent ascent, and a lengthy descent from the towers. Formerly known as Run to the Radio Towers, the event still sees many participants turning at the original t-post near the summit. The Santa Fe Striders organize the race, providing age-group and overall awards, food, coffee, refreshments, and raffle prizes. Proceeds benefit Wings of America, an organization that provides running programs and mentorship for Native American youth and teens.
