The Bootlegger 100 Mile Trail Race circles a 12.5-mile loop eight times, beginning near Indian Springs and utilizing the connector trail into Dauset Trails. This March trail ultra serves as a Western States qualifier, with a 35-hour cutoff for the 100-mile distance. Each loop offers approximately 1,050 feet of elevation gain, making the course runnable rather than mountainous. However, the daytime warmth and straightforward terrain can challenge pacing more than anticipated.
The loop commences with roughly half a mile of road, proceeds along 3.5 miles of connector trail, winds through the mountain-bike-designed Dauset Trails, and concludes with two miles of gravel and paved road leading back to the start/finish area. This configuration is well-suited for runners attempting their first 100-mile race, as crews can establish a base with tents, food, and personal supplies at the start/finish for each loop. A second aid station is positioned at the halfway point of the loop, mile 6.2, and does not permit crew access. Pacers are permitted to join at the start/finish. Finishers who satisfy the race's entry criteria are eligible for a raffle entry into the Western States Endurance Run.
