The Heroes Run begins at Fisher Family Pier in Pompano Beach, Florida, offering 10K, 5K, and 1-mile races, along with a free kids run. The 10K and 5K commence at 7 a.m., utilizing certified courses for both longer distances. This community benefit race is organized by the South Florida First Responders Foundation. It welcomes runners, walkers, spectators, local running clubs, and first responders from police, fire rescue, ocean rescue, the military, and associated services.
The race was established in remembrance of fallen heroes, including Lifeguard Lt. Piotr Zatorsky, Lifeguard Richard Loop, and Lifeguard Jose Antonio Landrua. Proceeds benefit local nonprofits aiding South Florida first responders and their families, with a focus on mental health services. Beneficiary organizations include Stomping Out the Stigma, providing free confidential counseling for first responders and military personnel, and the First Responders Foundation Florida Chapter, which trains shelter dogs as service animals. Additional support is directed to the Broward County Sheriff’s Foundation, Pompano Beach Fire Rescue Benevolent Association, and Pompano Beach Ocean Rescue Benevolent Association.
