The Swamp Fox Ultra takes place on the Swamp Fox Passage of the Palmetto Trail. It begins and ends at Buck Hall Landing in McClellanville, near Charleston, South Carolina. This trail race series offers distances from 10K to 100 miles, accommodating both short off-road runs and overnight ultras. The event starts in the morning, with the longest race extending into the following day, featuring generous cutoff times. Palmetto Ultras organizes the race, presented by Fleet Feet and Billy Simons Real Estate.
The course follows lowcountry trails within Francis Marion National Forest. It includes singletrack, doubletrack, rooty woods paths, and fire roads, with only two brief paved road sections. The 100-mile race is an out-and-back course covering 52 miles before runners turn back towards the finish. The 50-mile, 50K, half marathon, and 10K also use out-and-back configurations instead of loops. Organizers state it is the sole trail race that crosses the entire Francis Marion National Forest. Aid stations are positioned along the route, drop bags can be sent to and returned from aid stations, and all finishers receive a race-logo camp mug. Those completing the 100-mile distance also receive a buckle.
