The Ningen Shiodashi Konbu Marathon begins and ends on the sand at Katase Enoshima Nishihama Beach in Kanagawa Prefecture. The full marathon must be completed within five hours, and each shorter race has a one-hour limit. The name, “ningen shiodashi konbu,” roughly translates to people sweating salt like kombu, fitting for a hot-season race along the Shonan coast. The full marathon entry fee is 7,000 yen, with all participants receiving a prize. The event proceeds regardless of weather, meaning runners should anticipate a coastal race exposed to the elements, unlike a sheltered city course.
