From Kennedy Highway, the course enters the Speewah highlands and is not easy. The Forrest Gump Chocolate Box Trail Run is a "unique ultra trail run" designed for runners familiar with long days on rough terrain, featuring tropical rainforest trails, highland terrain, and the Cairns hinterland providing a difficult, remote character.
Expect technical trail sections, elevation changes, and "surprises around every corner" instead of a rhythm you can settle into. The afternoon start is the main twist: you move through the "transition from daylight to dusk," making the route a true "box of chocolates" experience with varied landscapes and unexpected challenges, and a genuine test of endurance for experienced trail runners.
