The Deutschlandlauf is a 21-stage running race across Germany, beginning in Flensburg near the Danish border and concluding in Lörrach near Switzerland. It takes place in August and spans 1,284 kilometers, with daily stages averaging 61 kilometers. This is a multi-week ultra-endurance event, not a single long day. Each stage typically commences at 7:00 AM, though a small group known as “the slow ones” departs at 6:00 AM from the second stage onwards.
The course crosses Germany from north to south. The race organization emphasizes daily logistics alongside speed. Entry covers accommodation, luggage transport, breakfast, aid station provisions, post-stage food, and dinner. An initial dinner is provided before the first stage, and accommodation is arranged both before the start and after the finish. Separate rankings exist for men and women, with no age-group categories. Times are logged in hours and minutes. The time limit equates to approximately 5 kilometers per hour, though the organizer notes it is applied leniently.
