The Biosphären Triathlon begins in the 50-metre pool at the Walsheim outdoor pool, offering a more local feel than typical lake-and-highway triathlons. The race is based in Walsheim, a part of Gersheim in Saarland, Germany, situated within the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve close to the French border. The main JedermannRennen, a short format open to many participants, consists of 300 metres of swimming, 20.3 kilometres of cycling, and 5 kilometres of running, with options for solo athletes and relay teams. A sprint race is also part of the event, and this distance includes the Saarland Championship.
Following the pool swim, cyclists navigate a 20.3-kilometre route connected to the Saarland Trofeo, utilizing roads used by professional cycling events instead of a closed circuit. The run takes place within Walsheim, circling the outdoor pool and providing views over the Hetschenbachtal. The triathlon is a component of the Saarland-Cups and maintains a club-like atmosphere, with volunteers from the Förderverein Freibad Walsheim managing the organization and receiving support from the Gersheim municipality and its leisure services.
