The Cape Town Cycle Tour takes cyclists on a 109 km route around the Cape Peninsula, beginning in Cape Town on roads closed to normal traffic for the main event. This is a single-day road race, not a stage race, attracting participants seeking a large, well-organized group ride with the uncommon opportunity to cycle on major roads without vehicle congestion.
The route's most notable segment is Chapman’s Peak, with its road situated high above the sea, offering cyclists some of the most distinct views of the Cape Peninsula during the day. Spectators gather along sections of the course. The event is integrated into the broader South African cycling schedule via seeding races like the Winelands Cycle Race, Durbie Dash, Amashova National Classic, Karoo to Coast, Around the Pot, Ride for Sight, and PPA Funride. The event's expo also provides health services, such as SkinScan screenings that have identified melanomas in attendees.
