The ebm-papst Marathon takes place over a September weekend in Niedernhall, located in Germany's Hohenlohe region. The start and finish lines are situated near the Sporthalle and festival grounds. This event is one of the region's largest sports gatherings, attracting several thousand participants. It is structured as a comprehensive race series, not solely a single marathon. Saturday is designated for recreational runners and Nordic walkers, while Sunday features the primary road races: marathon, duo marathon, relay marathon, half marathon, and 10 km.
The event also offers shorter races, including 7 km and 12 km distances, alongside competitions for handbikers, inline skaters, and children. Consequently, the participants include families, first-time runners, and seasoned athletes. The course winds through vineyards, lakes, and ponds surrounding Niedernhall, lending a local character to the weekend beyond the central festival area. ebm-papst and TSV Niedernhall organize the event. Its variety of walking, running, relay races, skating, handbike events, and children's races positions it as a community sports weekend rather than an event focused exclusively on the marathon.
