The Lousberglauf is a July hill race around the Lousberg in Aachen, featuring a specific distance of 5.555 kilometers. It begins and ends on Rütscher Straße, in front of the sports field at the student dormitories known as Die Türme. The field is limited to 2,000 runners, and recent events have seen over 1,000 finishers, giving it the feel of a local race rather than a small campus run. It is included in the NRW-Uni-Laufcup, offering both individual and team standings.
The race originated as a small student-dormitory event with 67 participants. It later expanded through collaboration between Die Türme, Aachen university sports, and the student sports department. The course encircles Aachen’s Lousberg, meaning the short distance includes the challenge of a hill race. Competitive runners approach it with seriousness; the men's record is held by Hamid Maaziz, and Esther Jacobitz holds the women's record. The event has maintained its student origins despite sponsors and a larger field leading to more professional organization.
