Silvesterlauf Grossburgwedel is a New Year's Eve running event in Großburgwedel, organized by Schwimmverein Burgwedel. It features a 10 km race, a 5.3 km race, and a 2 km children's run, attracting participants from competitive club runners to local families. The event recently marked its 40th edition and saw 332 starters, giving it the atmosphere of a community gathering with serious competition.
The 5.3 km course is suitable for mixed groups and fast racing. The local fire brigade distinguished itself by having 16 members complete the course in full gear. FC Burgwedel secured the award for the largest participating group, followed by TS Großburgwedel, Powermen, LAC Langenhagen, and the Burgwedel fire brigades. Participants received a Berliner doughnut for the anniversary edition. Louisa Aronda Heinen established a women's 10 km course record of 44:12, Fabian Kuklinski won the men's 10 km and also holds the men's 5.3 km course record, and Timo Kuhlmann won the 5.3 km in 17:27 before registering for another New Year's Eve run.
