Crono Escalada Monte Castelo takes participants directly up Monte Castelo from Viveiro, offering distinct categories for mountain biking and running. Organized by Peña Ciclista Lar, the event maintains a local feel despite attracting serious competitors, with approximately 80 individuals participating in both the BTT and running disciplines, cheered on by spectators along the ascent.
The cycling route spans 6.5 kilometers with an 8 percent average gradient. The running race, though shorter at three kilometers, ascends continuously to a finish line situated 500 meters above sea level. The competition has attracted notable cyclists and mountain runners from Galicia. Organizer Carlos Pernas has indicated the competitive standard is nearly at the level of a Galician championship. Previous footrace champions include Marcos Naya and Maria Platero, and Eduard Dydich secured the BTT victory in 24:04, providing a benchmark for the climb's difficulty over a short distance.
