Ironcat is a long-distance triathlon held in L'Ampolla, a coastal town in Tarragona adjacent to the Ebro Delta. Organized since 2004 by the Catalan Triathlon Federation in partnership with the L'Ampolla town council, it follows the full iron-distance format: 3,800 metres for swimming, 180 km for cycling, and a 42.2 km marathon.
The event begins with a Mediterranean swim at sunrise and may extend until nightfall. The cycling and running courses are fast and flat, including segments within the Ebro Delta Natural Park. Competitors have described it as well-organized without feeling crowded. It is suited for triathletes seeking the full distance within a more intimate Catalan race environment, as opposed to a large-scale event.
