Le Trail de Santenay begins and ends at Place du Jet d'Eau in Santenay, a wine village in Burgundy's Côte-d'Or. Participants can select from 8.5 km, 15 km, or 26 km distances, making the event suitable for a brief trail excursion or a more demanding run with significant elevation gain. Rougeot Beaune Triathlon is the organizer, with bib collection available at the Salle des fêtes, located approximately 200 meters from the start.
The courses traverse vineyards and local points of interest, such as the Moulin à Vent, the Chassagne vineyard, the ascent towards Les 3 Croix, and the Saint-Aubin vineyard, which features a dolmen. The terrain is varied, incorporating ascents, descents, and technical segments rather than a straightforward road course. The longest route shares its initial section with the 15 km course, and participants receive French onion soup upon finishing.
