The Semi-marathon du chemin du train Saugeais takes place in late August in Gilley, located in the Doubs department of eastern France. Its primary feature is the old railway line, with participants running along the former train route through the Saugeais region. The event offers multiple distances beyond the half marathon, including 6 km, 10 km, 13 km, and 21.1 km options. It also accommodates various categories such as road, nature, walking, and handisport. The half marathon involves an ascent of approximately 80 meters, and the 10 km has about 45 meters of elevation gain, making the course runnable without being entirely flat.
The route follows the former railway corridor between Pontarlier and Gilley, then proceeds through forest, trail sections, and open countryside in the Haut-Doubs area. It is designed to accommodate a wide range of participants: experienced runners can compete in the half marathon, casual runners have shorter distances to choose from, and families can opt for the more accessible formats. The inaugural race was won by Théo Pellegrini in 1 hour and 12 minutes, establishing a strong initial benchmark for the event.
