The Trail des Cabornis begins in Chasselay, near Lyon, leading runners into the Monts d'Or via technical paths and trails within a protected natural area. This two-day trail running event offers multiple distances: Le Gône is 11 km with approximately 470 meters of elevation gain, Le Canut is 25 km with about 1,000 meters of climbing, and Le Muratori is 42 km with roughly 1,800 meters of elevation gain. For those seeking a greater challenge, combined challenges link the 11 km race with either the 25 km or the 42 km race.
The courses are predominantly off-road, emphasizing terrain over road pace, and the significant elevation gain transforms even the shorter distances into demanding mountain-style efforts. The 25 km race allows for solo or duo participation, with the stipulation that duo teammates must remain within 100 meters of each other, ensuring a shared experience. Poles are prohibited across all distances, animals are not permitted (including for canicross), and participants are expected to handle some of their own needs under semi-autonomous conditions. The event also includes the MiniGône races for children, broadening the weekend's appeal beyond the main distances.
