Roman Rampage is a March trail race held in Friday Woods, Colchester, utilizing private military land associated with the PARAS'10 events. The primary race consists of a roughly 3-mile woodland circuit, with adult participants completing one, two, or three laps. The terrain is uneven, featuring hills, mud, and wet conditions, and the exact route is disclosed on race day. A 2-mile junior race is also available for participants aged 10 to 15.
Competitors may participate in the standard run, the TAB category carrying a loaded rucksack, or canicross, running with a dog. TAB participants must provide their own 35 lb rucksack, excluding food and water, which will be weighed at the start and finish. They are also required to wear boots offering full ankle support. Runners and canicross participants start first, followed by TAB entrants five minutes later. The Colchester location lends a military and Roman historical context: Friday Woods is the base for The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces, and Colchester was known as Camulodunum during the Roman era.
