The start is located on Gartenstraße near the Schlossgarten. The route incorporates city streets and natural paths between Edewecht and Oldenburg. The half marathon attracts the most participants, with over 2,500 registrations, followed by the 10 km race with approximately 2,000 runners. Oldenburg's city run originated in 1986, and the Oldenburger Marathonverein has organized the marathon under its present name since 2009. The scale of the event necessitates closing numerous city center streets, and local officials, including the mayor who traditionally gives the starting signal, participate on race morning.

The Oldenburg Marathon begins in Hude, outside Oldenburg, directing runners toward the city rather than using a simple downtown loop. This road running event in Lower Saxony, Germany, starts in the morning and concludes centrally on Schlossplatz. It stands as the largest running event in the Weser-Ems region, anticipating over 5,000 participants across all races. The course spans approximately 32 km from Hude to the Hunte River, then proceeds along the river into Oldenburg for the final 10 km through the city. All race distances conclude on Schlossplatz, meaning shorter events and the marathon share the same city-center finish line. The participant field is substantial, creating the atmosphere of a regional mass race, with marathoners, participants in shorter races, club athletes, and local runners converging on the same finish area.

Country Cross begins and ends within Waldstadion Syke. Runners depart the stadium for rougher terrain in the surrounding area. The event features a 1.3 km children's race for U10 to U12 participants, a 5.5 km race for U14 and older, and a half marathon for adults and older juniors. The half marathon covers approximately 21.1 km on an unmeasured course, largely utilizing unpaved field, forest, and meadow paths. About 4 km are on paved service roads, with the final nearly 2 km returning along the track to the stadium finish. The 5.5 km route follows forest paths, with only about 100 m of asphalt before reaching Waldstadion Syke. Showers and changing rooms are provided at the venue.
