A cannon shot starts the runners from the castle car park on Kisfaludy Street in Szigliget. The adult races are part of Várfutás, an October trail-running weekend organized by the Municipality of Szigliget, with main options over 6.5 km, 10 km, and a 1558-meter run.
The race commemorates a sixteenth-century harvest-time attack when villagers fled toward the castle from Turkish raiders. Today, the aim is health and community running. The longer routes traverse Szigliget’s streets and hills, passing the old village with its thatched houses and monuments. A steep climb awaits before the finish: the 6.5 km route gains 80 meters in the last 1500 meters, and the 10 km route adds 60 meters in its final 800 meters. Runners finish with views toward Lake Balaton and the castle, connecting the final uphill effort to the event's history.
