King and Queen of the Mountain

Puketāpapa / Mt Roskill is the focus: gather at Owairaka Athletics in Memorial Park, then run up and down Puketāpapa / Mt Roskill with the hill directly ahead. King and Queen of the Mountain has the feel of a classic club race with a winter twist, the historic King and Queen of the Maunga now linked with Matariki. Expect a straightforward event: road, path, and park terrain, a climb that challenges, and the reward of descending with legs fully engaged. Walkers participate, tamariki have their own Under 16 run, and the notable tradition is the post-race gathering: share a "run the mountain Puketāpapa," then enjoy "cup of tea and soup afterwards."
